Post Vacation Comedown Remix Edition

This is the remix edition, because the comedown came down a while ago. I meant to write about my California trip closer to the actual date I returned, but then life or something like it got in the way.

This year was the second trip originating around the Braves being on the road in San Francisco, and it is what will be an annual thing. You see, my friend, my sister Aimee lives close to Sacramento and is a die hard Giants fan, while her pesky little brother, me, is a total Braves fanatic, so it became a great reason to go see her and her family. She has one of those great Italian families that invites you in, feeds you, offers you whatever they have and once you’re there and family, you get it yourself.

I am a big fan of the family she is a part of, and I really get a kick out of the two kids she has created. It is a real joy to visit, even if the kids wake you up way too damn early. Continue reading “Post Vacation Comedown Remix Edition”

Cliche New Years Title

Let me just start by saying that 2014 was really good to me. I am happy that I cannot really think of anything that I would change about how I lived it, other than spending habits, but then I have always told myself those need to be changed.

I don’t have big plans for today, no raucous parties to welcome in 2015, but I think that is exactly what I need right now. My life isn’t in any kind of upheaval, but it does need some focus, and I think today is a good day to begin that action. There is always a little something more we can be doing, right?

I promised myself long ago that I would never stop learning, and it is high time I learn more about myself.  Continue reading “Cliche New Years Title”

Second Go Round

Waking up to a slight hangover after a fun night out is easily dealt with when in a city you love.

The trip so far has reacquainted me with two cities I feel that way about, Seattle was a quick go round for me, but still very cool. I remembered the hills there but I don’t know that my legs did. Wandering towards a destination, and taking in the sights as you go, is a great way to spend time, this is also where Google Maps comes in quite handy.

Big Baseball Trip Take Two!

So, back in 2011 I got dad to go to Seattle with me to watch our Braves play the Mariners.  We had to go so that we could see Chipper Jones play, since we weren’t sure if it would be his last year or not.  He went on to play the 2012 season, but he decided that it was his last.  It was amazing watching him go from city to city, receiving gifts from teams, and being cheered by fans, fans that understood what kind of player he was.  That brings me to the announcement that was made earlier this week. Me and My Teams

This year’s baseball playoffs have brought me to a couple decisions, or opinions if you will.

1. The one game playoff for Wild Cards is bullshit.  Yes it brought drama to the game, but it lets too much ride on chance, and not who the better team is.  Personally, I think if they want to go with two wild cards, they should do a three game playoff, that is fairness.

2. I will not root for any team that isn’t my team, no matter what.  I will hope, I will respect, but I will not root for any other team.  I will, however, root against teams.

Baseball is my favorite sport, not sure why, but it always has been on some level.  I wasn’t really all that good at it, but I collected the cards for years, and I have watched it even longer than that.  Growing up, we had TBS before we ever had ESPN, and because of this, we got Atlanta Braves games.  This basically meant that you loved them or you hated them, luckily I have a dad that loves them, and that helped bring me to the side of good! Where have I been…

So, I intended to be the kind of writer that put down words on your computer screen at least once a week, yet here we are basically a month since the last post, and I honestly don’t know why.

I have been doing just fine, both physically and mentally…actually I’ve been doing better than fine.  I am improving myself internally and externally and I am feeling good about that, getting into the right head space, all that good stuff.  All of that is going on, but something holds my words back long enough for yet another day to pass, and I have no good explanation for it.

I actually have quite a few ideas rolling around in my head at any one time, and it isn’t like that has gone anywhere, the opposite is actually true, it’s just that nothing wants to jump into the spotlight and take center stage.  Nothing wanted to form itself into the idea that would take up all of my extra mental space, rolling around in my head turning into a bigger and bigger idea… You know, like it normally does for me, or do you know? Ugh, Baseball

September 27, 2011

I have just watched my Braves lose yet another game this month. If you had told me a month ago that we would be skidding like this, that we would be struggling like this, that our chance at getting into the postseason was tantamount at best, well I would have laughed at you, and then I would have bit my tongue lest I tempt the fickle Gods of baseball.

DISCLAIMER: Yes I use the term we when I refer to the Atlanta Braves, or any team that is my favorite in any given sport. They are my favorite team for a reason, and I have undying loyalty to me even on the downslide that sometimes happens. So yes, I am one of those people that says we, or my, or our when referring to my favorite team and what is going on with them, and I will continue to do so. Besides, one of the pitchers for the Braves, whom I follow on Twitter, said that we should do that, so I will dangnabbit. Continue reading “Ugh, Baseball”

Exploring the Emerald City.

July 31, 2011

Ahhh, yes, lot’s of letters for my fingers to type out and in turn for your eyes to see and take in….shall we?

Tuesday morning arrived and I awoke to Dad coming into the hotel room with a paper and a cup of coffee. (for him, he’s not that nice. lol) Asked him if it was a local paper and he said no they had USA Today or Wall Street Journal so he grabbed the WSJ, although he didn’t know why the hell he did since it wasn’t really what he was looking for.  He was hungry so I jumped in the shower and got ready. The game wasn’t until 7pm that night so we had time to kill until we had to go to Safeco Field.

Once I was ready and we were going to head out, I received a text message from an old friend that now works in Seattle and lives just north of there.  She had just got off work and was going to crash and had to work that night so would Wednesday work to meet up, texted her of course it would because it was a day game then. Dad and I went to the elevator, and I asked what he wanted to have. He had heard someone talking in the lobby how you didn’t want to eat at the restaurant there because it was to expensive, when I said one of the coffeeshops would have bagels and stuff he said no because he wanted some eggs and bacon dammit. Fine by me, let’s go. Continue reading “Exploring the Emerald City.”

The trip, Day 1

Seattle for Beginners

As some of you know, my dad and I took a trip to Seattle to watch our beloved Atlanta Braves play against the Mariners.  The trip was to be a graduation present for me (read my MA thesis if you want, it’s linked in my last blog) and the game tickets were a Father’s day present for dad. We lined it up on priceline.com, we flew there on Monday the 27th and flew back Thursday the 30th, games were on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Monday morning we got everything together and hit the road for Billings where we would fly out of.  Hard to plan trips sometimes when you have to drive over 200 miles to get to the airport, but we did it fine. Got to Billings, had some lunch and then headed up to the airport. Getting everything in order worked just fine, for some reason when I put in the computer to keep us together it decided to separate us, so sitting and waiting to board became a who is the freak I will be next to type situation.  But first…security.
